50 metres from our house in the square is the taverna run by Yianni. Here you will find all the local English as well as Greek residents. The food is second to none, all home cooked by his mother. There is no menu, but Yanni will tell you what he has cooked that day. It's good Greek home cooking and also great locally produced wine all within easy staggering distance of home. But a piece of advice toilet facilities are basic! In Plaka we recommend Foteini's excellent restaurant can't remember the name of it but it's on the left side of the square, anyone will tell you where it is. At Almerida we always treat ourselves at least once to Erotokritos again great food, honey raki to wash it all down and beach front location, watch the sun set over Souda Bay! It can't get better than this! The food is excellent in Crete I've never had a bad meal, so stick to the Greek tavernas where the Greeks eat and you can't go wrong. |
